40. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Michigan

“The Lake Michigan coast has white sand beaches and some of the biggest sand dunes in the world. Lake Michigan beaches are some of the most family-friendly because they’re fresh water and land-bound, which means the waves are much smaller than many coasts along the ocean and there is much less ocean life to be worried about like sharks or jellyfish,” Nerissa Zhang, CEO of The Bright App, says. “I recommend visiting the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore because it is absolutely gorgeous, and it’s a protected national park area. There are plenty of inns or hotels to stay at nearby as well as AirBnBs and vacation homes to rent, but our family most enjoys camping at the park. We play on the beach and explore the sand dunes all day and then enjoy a bonfire and sleeping under the stars at night.”

Zhang adds, “Another great reason to take your family to a beach that is also a national park is that you can easily find information about how best to stay safe during the pandemic. Since it’s a government-managed park, the park employees all follow CDC guidelines and information to keep your family safe is readily available.”
