The Rise of New Money

Julian Fellowes is known for his period pieces that take a look at high society through the lens of its members and their servants. He began with the film, Gosford Park, and over the years he’s been responsible for the critically acclaimed, Downton Abbey, and Belgravia. His latest project heads across the pond and has an American slant to it.

In The Gilded Age, the country experiences rapid economic growth resulting in self-made fat cats looking to break into high society with their newly found wealth. In their way are the old money families unwilling to accept them into their circles and are reluctant to change. I can only expect plenty of passive aggression and cattiness followed by outright ruthlessness in the ways only rich folk can be.

The Gilded Age premieres tonight, January 24, on HBO.

Enter the Enchanted World of Exandria

What started off as a web series following a group of voice actors playing Dungeons & Dragons has grown into a successful brand. Critical Role has spawned novels, comic books, and other related merchandise including collectibles and its own campaign setting books. Now you can add animated series to the list.

The Legend of Vox Machina is based off of campaign one. The show takes place in Exandria and primarily on the continent of Tal’Dorei. The first two episodes will be a prequel of sorts and an all-new story occurring when the titular team were still at level seven and set off on their first real mission. Other episodes will adapt classic arcs including the Briarwood arc.

The first three episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina drop Friday, January 28, on Prime Video.

Pulled Back In

Jenny Franklin is an unassuming single mom on vacation in Europe with her daughter. Her trip is interrupted by the CIA who have uncovered her secret identity as a former Russian spy and recruit her for a mission.

In from the Cold is a mystery thriller that has Jenny hunting down a murderer of innocent people. The killer has the same M.O. she used in her previous life of espionage including the use of similar shapeshifting abilities. If she has any hope of getting back to her daughter and normalcy, she must catch this assailant before something catastrophic might happen.

Binge the entire season of In from the Cold beginning Friday, January 28, on Netflix.
