Marisa and Trey had a gorgeous wedding at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in the heart of the borough. Surrounded by stunning flora, these two kept warm hearts on a chilly winter day. With florals by Rachel Cho, these complemented the scenery beautifully and accented the couple’s love story.
How did you meet?
A modern love story of swiping right to meet our perfect match! Our first date was at a wine bar where we talked the night away.
What is your proposal story?
We were on a weekend getaway in the Catskills for my (marisa’s) birthday. Trey carried the ring around everywhere we went, restaurants, an icy hike, etc. waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question. The perfect moment turned out to be when it was just the two of us sitting on the balcony of our room having champagne and taking in the beautiful views. It was private and perfect.
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.
We visited a number of venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, but as soon as we walked into the Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, I was sold. I love plants and nature and having the conservatory rooms open to explore during our cocktail hour was a big selling point for me. We were able to get beautiful pictures with lush greenery in the middle of January! I also fell in love with the beauty of the Palm House. I love the dome shape and the glass all around. It felt like being in a snow globe and I knew it would be beautiful no matter what the weather outside was doing. I wanted to bring greens, whites, golds and romantic lighting into the space to make it extra special.
Tell us about your attire choices.
I knew I wanted to wear a dress that had sleeves (it was 11 degrees on our wedding day), and I have always loved lace. The dress I found met those criteria perfectly. It was a Pronovias dress and I got extra an extra good deal because it was a sample!
The girls had a choice of forest green dresses in a variety of materials. Funny enough they all chose the same simple satin dress.
Trey is a loyal Suit Supply enthusiast. He wanted to look sharp in black with a black Hermes tie. The groomsmen also wore suit supply black suits with a charcoal Hermes tie.
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
We really wanted to have an amazing band to keep the vibes fun and to keep the party going. The Eturnity Band did just that! Flowers are very expensive, but we didn’t want to blow our budget there so we opted to use more greens and skip the floral arch for the ceremony.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
The first look was one of my favorite parts. I just couldn’t wait to see Trey for the whole day. I also loved getting the card he wrote to me while I was getting ready. For both of us, it was having all of our friends and family together singing and dancing on the dance floor. It was one of the first events many of the guests had been to post covid and everyone showed up ready to have the best time ever.
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
I would say to be decisive. I can agonize over decisions and in the end, the details are nice but it is the energy of the event that makes all the difference. Make the ceremony personal, Sacha Jones Ceremonies did an amazing job for us. I had a number of people say they were so invested in hearing our story and even some of our closes families members heard parts of our story that they didn’t know before. If you are going to splurge on something, make it the music!
