After months of free surfing, contests will return to the beaches of Southern California. USA Surfing will hold a two-day event in Huntington Beach starting Saturday, Feb. 20. Oceanside will host the 2020 NSSA West Coast Championships on Feb. 26-28.
According to the Orange County Register:
Added protocols, such as judges not rotating as they normally would and plastic partitions between where they sit, will be instituted, as well as competitors checking in one-by-one and using jerseys soaked with water and a small amount of bleach between heats, Cruse said.
Competitors will be asked not to congregate on the sand and there will be no donuts or coffee served, as the early-morning events would normally offer.
No more mock heats for the groms, it’s time to put the jersey back on.
