The Men’s CT quarterfinals and the Women’s CT semifinals are upon us for the Boost Mobile Margaret Pro, which means the Pools Contest will lock soon after these rounds are complete. The waves have been pumping, and scores have followed with seven heats on the men’s side and two on the women’s Tour, registering an excellent scoring average.

On the Men’s CT, the two-time World Champion and No. 3 in the world ranking, John-John Florence, has withdrawn from the contest after advancing to the quarterfinals with a knee injury. He will also be out for the rest of the Australian-Leg, which removes a ton of win equity at the top and a solid regular-stance surfer off the board. Italo Ferreira, who’s second in the world ranking, is the highest seed left and has an excellent chance of winning, which could make it back-to-back victories for Brazil (Gabriel Medina, winner of the 2021 Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic).

Here are some of my favorite picks for the Free $1K World Surf League Margaret River Pro 2021 CT Pool on DraftKings Sportsbook.

The surfer with which stance (Goofy = left foot forward, Regular= right foot forward on a surfboard) is going to win the men’s event?

Goofy
Regular

Five of the final seven surfers are regular-stance, and the final two goofy-footers, Ryan Callinan and Italo Ferreira, have tough matchups ahead. Still, I’m going away from the probability and going with a Goofy-footer winning this event. Both Ferreira and Callinan are on opposite sides of the bracket and could meet up in the finals. Callinan is taking on Jordy Smith, who’s competed twice as much as the Goofy-footer at this event, but Callinan has the advantage over Smith in their head-to-head matchups in other events, beating him in three of their last four matchups. Ferreira is averaging 16.07 in his last two heats, which is an excellent score. Ferreira is the clear-cut favorite left in the event, and he is my pick to win.

Choice: Goofy

Will an Australian, man or woman, win the Margaret River event?

Yes
No

I’m going on the women’s Tour for this question. With two Australian surfers left, Bronte Macaulay and Stephanie Gilmore, the odds could be in Australia’s favor. Still, this is Carrissa Moore’s event to lose. Both Australians have been surfing great, with MaCaulay beating Johanne Defay and Caroline Marks, who rank higher than her — Marks is the second-ranked surfer in the world. Moore is such a progressive and powerful surfer, especially on these waves, averaging a 14.74 heat score and an 82% heat win rate in her previous eight events here. Moore just finished third at the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic in April, as well.

Choice: No

What country will the men’s winner be from?

USA
Brazil
Australia
Other

Even though the last two Brazilian surfers, Italo Ferreira and Filipe Toledo, face each other in the quarterfinals, both should be heavy favorites to win as the two-highest ranked surfers left. Going with “Other” is also a choice to consider. Seth Moniz, from Hawaii, has been surfing great all event, and there are two South Africans left, leaving just under 43% of surfers still left that don’t fall into the other countries listed in the pool. Again, Ferreira is my pick to win.

Choice: Brazil
