Trancas Beach
Trancas Creek is located between Broad Beach and Zuma Beach along Pacific Coast Highway. You can access the beach where Trancas Creek meets the ocean at the west end of Zuma Beach or you can walk east from the Broad Beach entrance at 31138 Broad Beach Road and walking down the beach towards Trancas Creek. North from Trancas Creek and Zuma Beach is Broad Beach, however access is limited and rip-rap has replaced most of the beach sand. Some of the most expensive real estate in Malibu, Broad Beach is boasted as the beach of the “rich and famous”. Two access gates are located in between houses and are difficult to see. They are at 31340-31346 and 31138-31202 Broad Beach Road. Access from 31340 is popular with scuba divers, snorkelers, surfers, body boarders, and tide poolers. There are some large rocks in the surf zone, a rocky reef about 200 yards from shore, some kelp, and a tide pool area at the point. Access from 31138 is popular with swimmers, body boarders, and sun seekers. The beach along this area is wide open with lots of sand. Although the beach is a mile long, it can disappear at high tide.
I parked at the end of Bonsali road at the parking lot, took the Zuma loop trail, then the Canyon view trail and returned by the ocean view trail – it was perfect. I went on Monday morning and was probably the only person on the trail. Such a great thing. The views were amazing! It is quite a short trail but there is some elevation so it took me about two hours. Ideal for a quick morning hike!
