Tyler Brooks of Manhattan Beach completed his sixth wellness certification this month — Regenerative Surfing Practice Facilitation — adding it to his existing credentials in breathwork facilitation, somatic trauma release through water therapy, cold exposure and ice surf acclimatisation coaching, mindful paddle and ocean presence certification, and ocean grief therapy facilitation. Brooks announced the completion of his “whole surfer approach” certification suite in an Instagram post describing the modalities as “a complete framework for supporting surfers at every level of their relationship with the ocean and themselves.” His current client base is fifteen regular students. Twelve are between the ages of nine and thirteen. Their parents confirmed they engaged Brooks specifically because he charges the same rate as other Manhattan Beach surf instructors and is available on Saturday mornings. Asked whether any client has requested the grief therapy modality, Brooks confirmed “not yet, but the option is always there.” The eleven-year-olds are learning to pop up.
